Guidance is an estimate for one activity, not a service guarantee. Packet loss, Wi-Fi interference and each service’s route also affect quality. See benchmarks and sources.

Budget: 20 Mbps per 4K stream, 4 Mbps each way per HD call, 2 Mbps down / 0.5 up per browsing device, plus 25% headroom. This is a planning estimate, not an ISP plan recommendation.
Internet plans use megabits. File downloads often show megabytes.
Eight bits make one byte: 100 Mbps ÷ 8 = 12.5 MB/s. Actual downloads also depend on overhead and the file server.
Buffering streams. Choppy calls. A game that lags. A few details can point you towards the next useful step.

Pause large downloads, streaming and cloud backups. Use an Ethernet cable where possible, keep this page open, then select Start speed test. Repeat at different times and compare results from the same device. A Wi-Fi speed test includes both your wireless connection and the wider internet route.
Yes. This browser-based broadband speed test can measure a connection from Bell, Rogers, TELUS, Shaw, Vidéotron, Cogeco, SaskTel, Eastlink, TekSavvy, Starlink or another ISP. The test uses Cloudflare’s network; it is independent of these providers and does not test directly against each ISP’s own servers.
Download speed measures data coming to your device, such as video and game files. Upload speed measures data leaving it, such as a video call or cloud backup. Both are reported in megabits per second (Mbps). Higher numbers mean more data can move at once.
Ping here is the median HTTP response latency to the test endpoint, measured in milliseconds. Jitter measures the average change between consecutive latency samples. Lower values generally help interactive activities. These measurements are not your ping to a specific game server.
The standard test requests up to about 79 MB of download and upload payload combined. Data saver requests up to about 9 MB. Protocol overhead adds a little more. Slow connections may finish with fewer transfers. Select Data saver if you have a limited mobile or satellite data allowance.
It can run wherever your browser can reach the test network, including cable, fibre, DSL, fixed wireless, cellular and satellite connections. Server routing, congestion, Wi-Fi and your device can affect the result. We do not claim a local test server in every province or territory.
Tests use different servers, transfer sizes, connection counts and calculations. Wi-Fi conditions and other people using your connection can also change between tests. Compare repeated results under similar conditions, rather than treating one reading as your plan’s guaranteed speed.
From apartments in Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver to homes across the Prairies, Atlantic Canada and the North: check your connection, compare your results and make sense of your speed. Works on desktop, tablet and mobile.
